Gas work is the part of the trade with the least room for approximation. Load has to be calculated, pipe has to be sized for the run and not just the appliance, and everything gets pressure tested and permitted. Outdoor living work runs underground, through hardscape, and often after the patio is already finished. Planning the route before the concrete goes down saves considerably more than it costs, and we would rather be involved at that stage than cut into new stonework later.

Press systems and leak detection
We use professional gas press tooling where it is approved for the application, which makes for consistent, repeatable joints and cleaner work in tight and close-quarter spaces. For diagnosis, we use proper gas leak detection equipment rather than working by smell.

Do gas lines need a permit?
Yes. New gas lines and extensions are permitted and inspected work in both Ventura County and Los Angeles County jurisdictions. Anyone offering to skip it is creating a problem that surfaces when you sell the house, and it will not pass an insurance claim after an incident.
Can I add a fire pit to my existing gas line?
Often, but it has to be checked rather than assumed. It depends on the total connected load, the meter capacity and the size and length of the existing run. We calculate it before quoting, because an undersized line shows up as appliances that will not run properly at the same time.
I can smell gas. What should I do?
Leave the building, do not operate switches or anything that could spark, and call SoCalGas at 1-800-427-2200 or 911 from outside. They will come out and make it safe at no charge. Call us afterwards for the repair.
